Which apps are recommended for LG or Samsung TV?

Finding the right IPTV app for a smart TV can be frustrating. Neither LG nor Samsung has particularly generous app support on their platforms, and the most popular IPTV apps simply aren't available directly in their app stores. But there are solutions — and we'll walk you through them here.

Our strong recommendation: Use an external streaming device

If you want a hassle-free IPTV experience, the honest truth is that an external streaming device delivers a noticeably better result than the built-in systems on LG and Samsung TVs. The reasons are several:

  • More apps to choose from — Apple TV and Google TV support the best IPTV apps: UHF, TiviMate, IPTVX and XCIPTV
  • Better performance — Dedicated streaming devices have more powerful processors which means faster channel switching and less buffering
  • Automatic updates — Playlists and EPG update automatically, something that doesn't always work as smoothly on built-in TV systems
  • Future-proof — You're not dependent on your TV manufacturer approving and maintaining apps

The best options for an external device are Apple TV (for Apple users) and Chromecast with Google TV or Nvidia Shield (for Android users).

What works directly on the TV?

If you'd prefer not to buy an external device, here's what works on each TV.

TVOur pickIf it isn't in your store
Samsung (Tizen)IBO PlayerSmartOne IPTV
LG (webOS)IBO PlayerSmartOne IPTV
Hisense / Toshiba (VIDAA)SmartOne IPTV–
Philips, Sony, TCL with Google TV or Android TVTiviMate from Google Play–
Philips with Titan OS (most from 2025)Search for IBO Player in the app storeAn external device

The app store on Samsung: press Home and choose search (the magnifying glass). On older models: Apps → search at the top right. Don't change the country on your TV to find an app — pick one of the apps in the table instead.

App prices are shown in the store

Most have a free trial and then cost a small fee per TV, which goes to the app maker. The prices are the apps' own and change without us being told, so we don't list them here.

SmartOne IPTV – how to add uPlay

SmartOne is available in the Samsung, LG and VIDAA app stores.

  1. Install and open SmartOne IPTV. Write down the MAC address shown on the screen.
  2. Go to smartone-iptv.com and choose to upload a playlist (Upload Playlist).
  3. Choose the Xtream Server Info tab and fill in Tv MAC, a name under Account Name, the server address under Server Adress, 80 under Server Port, plus Username and Password.
  4. Tap Add Playlist and restart the app on your TV.

Extra tips for a better experience

Regardless of which device you use, these tips can make a real difference:

  • Use Ethernet instead of WiFi — A wired connection delivers more stable streaming and significantly reduces buffering
  • Check for H.265 support — Newer TV models support H.265 (HEVC) which provides better picture quality at lower bandwidth
  • Keep your TV's firmware updated — An up-to-date TV performs better and has fewer compatibility issues with apps

Frequently asked questions

Why isn't TiviMate or UHF available in the LG/Samsung store?

TiviMate is an Android app and is not available for WebOS or Tizen. UHF is an Apple app and is only available in the App Store. These platforms each have their own ecosystem and don't share apps with one another.

Can I install apps outside the LG/Samsung store?

In practice, no. SS IPTV isn't in the Samsung store and can only be installed with a USB stick on TVs from 2015–2019 — which is why we don't recommend it. Choose an app from the table above or an external streaming device.

The app I found shows a MAC address, device key or QR code instead of a login

Then it's an app you set up through its website (like IBO Player and SmartOne IPTV). You make changes on the app's website using the MAC address from your TV, and then restart the app. If it's called something like "IPTV Smarters" but shows a demo list, it's a different app with a similar name — switch to IBO Player.

I use Smart IPTV – it says "Server (URL) connection timeout" or "No playlist uploaded"

Upload the list at siptv.app/mylist with the MAC address from your TV and tick Save online. Use the username and password fields (USER/PASS) and tap Send. Then unplug the TV's power cable for a minute and start the app again. If that doesn't help, the list is too big for the TV: choose a smaller package under Change content or switch to IBO Player.

I use Duplex IPTV / DuplexPlay

Duplex is in the middle of renaming itself DuplexPlay, and parts of its website aren't working right now. We recommend IBO Player instead. If you already have Duplex: on edit.duplexiptv.com, choose Manage Device, log in with the Device ID and Device Key from your TV, add the playlist and save. Then press the blue button on your remote to refresh.

Why don't you recommend IPTV Smarters Pro anymore?

The app has disappeared and stopped working for most users. On smart TVs we recommend IBO Player instead, on Apple UHF and on Android TiviMate. Your uPlay credentials work in all three — only the app changes.

Which external device do you recommend most?

For Apple users, Apple TV is the obvious choice. For everyone else we recommend Chromecast with Google TV as an affordable option or Nvidia Shield for those who want maximum performance.

Summary

  • LG and Samsung have limited IPTV app support — don't expect the same experience as on dedicated streaming devices
  • IBO Player is our first choice on both platforms
  • An external streaming device like Apple TV or Chromecast with Google TV delivers a noticeably better experience
  • Use Ethernet for the most stable streaming regardless of device
