What is VOD?
VOD stands for Video on Demand. It's essentially a library of movies, series and documentaries that you can watch whenever you like, without having to wait for something to be broadcast on a specific channel at a specific time.
With uPlay you get access to one of the largest VOD libraries on the market — over 229,000 titles available around the clock.
VOD vs Live TV — what's the difference?

What's in uPlay's VOD library?
uPlay's VOD library is divided into several categories to make it easy to find what you're looking for:
Movies
An enormous selection of films from around the world — action, comedy, drama, horror, sci-fi and much more. Both new theatrical releases and classics are available.
Series
Complete seasons of popular series, both Swedish and international. You can finish one season and immediately start the next without switching apps or services.
Documentaries
A wide selection of documentaries covering nature, history, crime, sport and society.
Children's content
Family-friendly content and children's series for the youngest members of the family.
International content
Movies and series in Turkish, Arabic, Hindi, Spanish and many more languages — perfect if you want to stay connected with content from your home country.
How do you find VOD in your app?
Navigation varies slightly depending on which app you use, but the principle is the same:
TiviMate
- Open the app and select Movies or Series in the main menu
- Browse categories or use the search function
- Select a title and press play
UHF (Apple TV)
- Open the app and select Movies or Series in the main menu
- Filter by genre, language or popularity
- Select a title and start playback
Tips
Can't find a specific film? Use the search function in the app and search for the original English title — this gives the best results in most apps.
The difference between VOD and catch-up
It's easy to confuse VOD and catch-up since both let you watch content after it has aired. Here's the simple difference:
- VOD — a permanent library of movies and series that is always available
- Catch-up — the ability to rewatch programmes that recently aired on a live TV channel, available for a limited time (usually 1–7 days)
A film in the VOD library is always there. A programme in catch-up disappears after a few days.
Is the VOD library updated?
Yes. uPlay's VOD library is continuously updated with new content. New films are added regularly and series are updated when new seasons are released. You don't need to do anything — the next time you open the app there will be new titles to discover.
Frequently asked questions
Is VOD included in my subscription?
Yes. The VOD library with 229,000+ titles is included in all uPlay subscriptions at no extra cost.
Can I download content for offline viewing?
No, uPlay is a streaming-based service. All content is streamed directly and cannot be downloaded for offline viewing.
Why can't I find all the films I search for?
The VOD library is enormous but doesn't cover everything that exists. To check whether a title is there: search for the original title in the app, or tap Watch now on My uPlay and search there – the search covers channels, movies and series across your whole account and copes with misspellings.
Is an episode or a season that has already been released missing? Write the title in the chat and we'll report it.
Can I request a movie or series?
Yes. Go to Help on My uPlay and fill in Request a movie or series:
- Choose Movie or Series
- Type the name
- Look up the title on themoviedb.org, copy the address of the title's page and paste it under Link to the title on themoviedb.org
- Tap Send request
The link tells us exactly which title you mean. If someone has already requested the title, the form tells you right away – then it's already on our list, and you don't need to do anything more.
We can't promise the title will be added, but we read every request and are glad for the tip – it helps us make uPlay better.
When do new episodes and seasons arrive?
We don't have dates in advance for individual titles. New episodes and seasons are added continuously once they've been released on the service that shows them. If the series airs on a Swedish channel, you can watch it live when it's broadcast, and afterwards via catch-up if the channel has it.
Movies won't load, but live TV and series work
The movie library is very large, and some apps can't cope with loading the whole movie list – especially on TVs with little memory. Movies then stays empty, keeps spinning or won't open. Your account is fine.
- Let the app finish loading and update the content (in XCIPTV: Settings → Update Contents → Update All).
- Restart the device.
- Try TiviMate, UHF or IBO Player.
Can you remove language versions or categories I don't want to see?
Not for an individual account. You can, however, hide movie and series categories in the app. Filtering by genre and sorting by recently added depend on the app – UHF, for example, can filter by genre and language.
Does my content package affect the movies and series?
To some extent. Every content package includes the movies and series from the big streaming services. What differs is country-specific movies and series, which follow the countries you have chosen. Movies and series are included both with Xtream Codes and in the M3U link.
Can I watch VOD content abroad?
Yes, the VOD library is available wherever you are in the world. See our guide on uPlay abroad for more information.
What's the best way to search the VOD library?
Search for the original English title for the best results. Many films are indexed under their English title even if they're displayed with Swedish subtitles or in Swedish.
